The Prime Video Android Player team is looking for a talented Software Development Engineer to help reinvent how customers experience live sports such as NFL Thursday Night Football, English Premier League, MLB TV, NBA League Pass and more!

The Android Player team designs, implements and maintains high-performance software that powers video playback on millions of Android and Amazon Fire/Echo devices. We are responsible for the playback experience, quality and performance from the time you press play on an Prime Video title. Our software is designed to work seamlessly across a variety of devices/playing conditions and in a multitude of content consumption contexts, including live streaming, on-demand and ad-supported playback.

Key job responsibilities
You will be contributing to our teams' technical strategy, designing and developing reusable, object-oriented and performant software utilizing well-known patterns (MVC, Composite, Delegate, Protocol…) that may span multiple platforms, form factors, and resource challenges.

You will be exposed to the best experiences in mobile and multimedia software development as well as cutting-edge video streaming technologies such as audio/video codecs (AVC, HEVC, AAC, AC-3), DRM (Widevine, FairPlay, PlayReady), media frameworks (gstreamer, openMAX, iOS AV), streaming technologies (DASH, HLS, SmoothStreaming) and media container formats.

A day in the life
As a software engineer on the Prime Video team, your day starts with diving into hands-on coding and technical problem-solving. You're not just writing codeβ€”you're helping to shape the architecture of complex systems that millions of people rely on every day. One of the most rewarding aspects of your role is seeing your work come to life when friends and family use Prime Video to watch their favorite shows and live sports.

Your primary focus is on designing and maintaining the components that power every title on Prime Video. This involves creating highly performant and low-latency systems that ensure users can start streaming their content with just a click. The challenges are unique, especially when it comes to managing the sheer scale of requests you handle daily.
Collaboration is a big part of your role. You spend time working with a cross-functional team to align on technical strategies and define your long-term roadmap. It's exciting to influence decisions that will impact the future of Prime Video. Throughout the day, you switch between deep focus on coding and brainstorming sessions with teammates to solve tough problems.

Beyond the technical work, you also play a key role in mentoring junior engineers. Sharing your knowledge and seeing others grow is incredibly fulfilling. - 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience programming with at least one software programming language- 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $129,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $223,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
