Prime Air is looking for a Lab Engineer to help support design & development integration and test activities. The successful candidate will be obsessed with quality improvement, help to generate and collect data to increase operational efficiency.
In this role you will be working alongside Electrical, Firmware and Systems Engineers (the team) to understand the product requirements and develop the test strategy for the multiple product Subsystems. You will be responsible for the following:
• Working alongside Electrical, Firmware and Systems Engineers (the team) to understand the product requirements, design and test strategy
• Executing bring up, debug and test procedures for component, subsystem and system level testing
• Assisting with assembling / modifying prototypes and test fixture.
• Understanding use cases, device/system troubleshooting skills down to the component level.
• Assisting team members in troubleshooting, diagnosis, and replication of product failures.
• Creating prototype devices via fabrication, 3D printing, or external vendors.
• Ordering parts and equipment as necessary.
Export Controls License
This position may require a deemed export control license for compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Placement is contingent on Amazon’s ability to apply for and obtain an export control license on your behalf.
Key job responsibilities
You complete straightforward lab engineering tasks at an individual or team level.
You have a basic knowledge of consumer electronic devices (e.g. batteries, displays, wireless technologies), electro-mechanical systems (e.g. motors, controllers, sensors), scripting, coding, automation, and/or quality assurance.
You understand fabrication techniques and how they relate to material properties (e.g. strength, surface finish, tolerances).
You are able to operate shop tools and lab equipment effectively to perform your daily work. You are able to conduct environmental and reliability testing of components, sub systems or devices to assure functionality or determine failure limits.
You understand, follow, and may contribute to the development of engineering documentation, including solid models, detailed drawings, manufacturing visual aids, schematics, equipment specifications, test procedures, and SOPs.
You are learning to develop high-quality engineering artifacts.
You are learning lab management and lab engineering best practices.
Your work may include researching equipment, processes and methods or engaging suppliers and/or external partners for lab-related activities (e.g., improving test capability or methods).
You actively participate in maintaining a safe, clean and efficient lab, and you may identify opportunities to increase efficiency and/or product quality.
You make appropriate trade-offs between speed, quality, and resource constraints.*BS in Electrical Engineering
*2+ years of experience designing and executing hardware test and validation plans for electro/mechanical products
*Experience in all stages of a product lifecylce, from defining requirements, to developing initial prototypes, to factory bring up, to high volume production launch
*Ability to translate use cases and/or technical specifications into test cases
*Direct hands-on experience testing and debugging custom and commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) electronic hardware at board, assembly and system levels
*Direct hands-on experience with electronic hardware instrumentation (DMMs, DAQ, power supplies, high speed oscilloscopes, etc.,) and other special test equipment used to test electronic components and systems
*Excellent verbal and written communication skills, problem solving and analytical skills
*Self-starter, capable of working independently and building strong cross functional relationships
*Familiarity with the following standards: -IPC-7711/7721 (Rework, Repair & Modification or Printed Circuit Boards & Electronics Assemblies) -IPC J-Standard (Requirements for Soldered Electrical and Electronic Assemblies) -IPC/WHMA-A-620 (Cable & Wire Harness Assembly)
*Experience with LabVIEW or other programming or scripting language such as C++, C#, Java, Python, etc.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $73,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $165,200/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
