Research Scientist Intern, Acoustic Strain Sensing (PhD)

At Reality Labs Research, we are at the forefront of pioneering research into new technologies aimed at revolutionizing user interface technologies for the next generation of virtual, augmented, and mixed reality experiences. Our focus is on developing soft and conformable wearables that provide seamless user experiences, addressing both integration and manufacturing challenges to shape the future of XR interactions. We are dedicated to solving difficult technical challenges across our AR, VR, and MR products. We are actively developing a comprehensive range of technologies necessary for the creation of next-generation AR glasses, VR headsets and robotics. This includes research and invention of novel strain sensors, acoustic metamaterials and electronic readout systems. As a Research Scientist Intern, you will collaborate with a team of expert research scientists, hardware engineers, and software developers. Your role will involve building groundbreaking prototypes and advancing the technology that will make XR universal. In particular, we welcome PhD students in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, physics, applied physics and materials science, or similar fields. Our internships are twelve (12) to twenty-four (24) weeks long and we have various start dates throughout the year. Some projects may require a minimum of 16 consecutive weeks. The internship will be onsite at the California Institute of Technology, located in Pasadena, CA.
