About the team + role

The Robinhood Cryptography Team is charted for building and maintaining the critical cryptographic primitives and infrastructures that ensure the security and integrity of Robinhood’s platform. This includes Public Key Infrastructure (PKI), encryption, secrets management, and other foundational cryptographic systems. The team at Robinhood is focused on crafting robust, secure cryptographic solutions that support the company's rapid user and feature growth. These solutions are designed to align with the highest SLAs and require minimal operational overhead. By enabling secure transactions, protecting critical data, and ensuring compliance with evolving security standards, the Cryptography Team plays a pivotal role in safeguarding Robinhood’s ecosystem and enhancing user trust.

What you’ll do

  • Build scalable systems and components, making the right tradeoffs to account for stability and long-term maintainability.
  • Design, write, test, and release critical technical solutions with high engineering rigor.
  • Collaborate with multi-functional teams and deliver large-scope technical quality projects
  • Mentor junior developers on the team and lead project of large complexity
  • Find opportunities to improve system performance, team efficiency, and minimize risks

What you bring

  • 3+ years of software development experience in a dynamic setting.
  • 2+ years experience writing low latency, large scale distributed systems.
  • Proficiency in Go or Python, with exceptional technical grasp with problem-solving and production debugging skills.
  • Strong ownership and experience building and operating high-scale, distributed systems across the full software lifecycle.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well within a team and across engineering teams.
  • Expertise with cloud-native platforms, container and orchestration technologies (e.g., AWS, Kubernetes, gRPC, Kalfa).
  • Experience with cryptographic protocols and frameworks (TLS, PKI, JWT, etc.) is preferred.
  • Experience mentoring junior developers and leading the team technically on new initiatives and system improvement.

Base pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of job-related factors, which may include education, training, experience, location, business needs, or market demands. The expected salary range for this role is based on the location where the work will be performed and is aligned to one of 3 compensation zones. This role is also eligible to participate in a Robinhood bonus plan and Robinhood’s equity plan. For other locations not listed, compensation can be discussed with your recruiter during the interview process.
