We are an innovative team of scientists who use machine learning and statistical techniques to create state-of-the-art solutions for providing better shopping experience for Amazon’s customers. We are looking for an experienced Applied Scientist to help design, build, and develop big impact models that improve customer experience. This leader will solve complex problems in one of the fastest growing segments of the Retail business, Fashion and Fitness (Apparel, Shoes, Jewelry, Watches, Luggage, Sports and Outdoors). A successful candidate will be a self-starter comfortable with ambiguity and working in a fast-paced environment. This role requires an individual who strives to answer business/operational questions and who works across functional boundaries. The ideal candidate should also have a demonstrated ability to think strategically and analytically, with a passion for innovation. You will build and deploy advanced algorithmic systems that help optimize millions of transactions every day. You will own end-to-end business problems/metrics and directly impact the profitability and growth of the company. Key job responsibilities
- Work with Product, Engineering, and peer scientists to formulate business problems into scientific ones
- Build large-scale data pipelines for training and evaluating the models using PySpark/SparkSQL
- Extensively clean and explore the datasets
- Train and evaluate ML models in a robust manner
- Design and conduct live experiments to validate model performance
- Automate model inference and monitoring and on AWS infrastructure- 4+ years of applied research experience
- 3+ years of building machine learning models for business application experience
- PhD, or Master's degree and 6+ years of applied research experience
- Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language
- Experience with neural deep learning methods and machine learning- Experience with modeling tools such as R, scikit-learn, Spark MLLib, MxNet, Tensorflow, numpy, scipy etc.
- Experience with large scale distributed systems such as Hadoop, Spark etc.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $150,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $260,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
