The role
The role will be to provide hands on Technical Program Management Support for a number of project teams within the Science and Strategic Initiative Unit’s Portfolio. Agility and flexibility will be a key capability (things will change!) but likely focus areas will be working with the Unit’s engineering teams to enable and accelerate the research and delivery roadmaps of Research teams across the whole portfolio. There will also be opportunities to support Program-wide initiatives. This is a 12 month fixed-term contract position.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work with Engineering and Research teams on end-to-end project planning and delivery, using your knowledge of project methodologies including tools and techniques such as stand ups, retrospectives, agile boards, project plans, etc.
- Support teams across the whole portfolio to develop clear delivery plans with well understood technical requirements.
- Help leads across the Unit plan and prioritise work to ensure that we are focusing on the most impactful areas. whilst broadly supporting the SSI
- Research teams
- Providing best practices and lightweight process to researchers and engineers to enable the deployment of Scientific Systems. and accelerate research.
- Facilitate conversations, meetings and opportunities for collaboration to drive the best outcomes; create connections and relationships across the Unit.
- Track progress, maintain up to date information and relevant technical documentation, anticipate and propose solutions to issues and risks.
- Identify opportunities to improve ways of working, tools or processes.
- Evaluate the success of projects against their aims, goals and objectives
- Demonstrate a curious mindset and a commitment to learning and understanding the various technical fields across the unit, and your broader understanding of AGI.
About you
In order to set you up for success as a Technical Program Manager at Google DeepMind, we look for the following skills and experience:
- Excellent technical understanding and communication ability, with the ability to distil sophisticated technical ideas to their essence
- Knowledge and expertise in project/program management with the skill to navigate through ambiguity and adjust and adapt plans and strategies as project conditions change
- Experience supporting teams of different sizes to deliver projects at various lifecycle stages independently and through others
- Experience in solving complex challenges, implementing scalable and sustainable solutions
- Ability to develop meaningful relationships with key stakeholders and leverage these to influence action and outcomes
- Experience supporting teams in fast-paced and constantly changing environments, acting as a sounding board as individuals go through the change cycle and supporting during challenging times
- Skilled in collaboration with diverse individuals with varying backgrounds (e.g. engineering, computational biology, product management)
In addition, the following would be an advantage:
- You have Product Management experience, or similar experience understanding potential users and distilling that into development/product priorities
- You have Prototyping experience, transforming early ideas quickly into prototypes that users can test and graduating/discarding those prototypes
- Experience with automation, e.g. using Python or creating scripts in the Google Office Suite.
- You are passionate about the sciences and AGI & proactive about learning and acquiring knowledge to enhance your domain knowledge.
- BS degree in Computer Science, Engineering, related fields or equivalent practical technical experience.
- Experience with application and service deployment
