The Role
If you are a Toast Supplier Quality Engineer, then, you have a critical position ensuring Toast devices meet the product and process standards established by the Voice of the Customer. In this vital role you will oversee and engage with Toast’s Contract Manufacturers, CMs, and partners across Asia. You will verify incoming and in-process material meets Toast’s drawings and specifications. He/she will be responsible for auditing and assessing the readiness of CMs quality systems in preparation for product launch. This person will also engage with critical sub-tier suppliers. The Supplier Quality Engineer will provide reports, charts, graphs, etc to monitor and improve product quality.
The successful candidate must have the ability to meet tight deadlines, have strong interpersonal and communication skills, be detail-oriented, and have the ability to work independently. He/she must establish and maintain a professional working relationship with department managers, supervisors, operators, and cross-functional engineering teams.
Responsibilities:
- Audit
- Work with CMs to audit and assess production line and quality system readiness for production.
- Conduct regular supplier audits (remote or on-site) and follow up on audit findings.
- Root causing and failure analysis
- Lead real time RCCA activities with CMs and Asia supplier and become the node of quality activity between Toast HQ and Toast Taiwan
- Manage and resolve supplier non-conformances, including root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions (CAPA).
- Quick response
- Facilitate real-time communication and collaboration with suppliers, leading to quicker issue resolution and decision-making.
- Quality control
- Perform on-site quality inspections, audits, and maintain control plans to assure critical features are controlled through the assembly/production processes.
- Identify areas for quality control improvement and implement new methods accordingly.
- Monitor and report supplier scorecard performance metrics (e.g., PPM, OTD, NCRs).
- Supplier development
- The SQE can work closely with suppliers to help them improve their manufacturing processes, address quality concerns, and implement corrective actions.
- Establish and maintain quality performance metrics.
- Coordinate calibration activities, working with outside vendors to ensure that all test and measurement equipment is calibrated prior to use on the manufacturing floor.
- Review and approve supplier PPAP submissions and control plans.
- Risk management
- Identify potential risks related to the supply chain, monitor supplier performance, and take preventive measures to mitigate risks.
- Provide data input and output reports to assist in quality improvement activities.
- Supplier evaluation and selection
- Assist in evaluating and selecting new suppliers based on their capabilities, quality systems, and performance history.
- Work with 3rd party auditors in developing IQC, inspection protocols, and SOPs
- NPI
- Work with mechanical, electrical, and manufacturing teams in identification of failure modes and countermeasure management
- Monitoring design performance and knowledge gaps of NPI designs
- Support change control as needed
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Mechanical, Material Science or equivalent
- 7+ years experience in manufacturing and test for consumer and handheld device
- Good knowledge of PCBA process, have experience in board level testing, PCBA quality verification, root causing.
- Familiar with FATP, including lamination, system assembly, function testing and packaging.
- Experience with new product introduction and manufacturing operations is required
- Knowledge of quality methodologies and tools is required
- Proficiency in quality tools: APQP, PPAP, FMEA, MSA, SPC, 8D, and Root Cause Analysis.
- Knowledge of ISO 9001, IATF 16949, or equivalent quality management systems.
- Strong understanding of statistical analysis and measurement systems.
- Excellent problem solving and communication skills.
- Working level knowledge of Lean Six Sigma and problem solving
- Ability to travel to supplier locations as needed (domestic and/or international).
- Excellent team player, ability to take initiative, and result and detail oriented.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills.
- Flexible, improvised, and practical
- Master’s degree in engineering or business management is a plus
Certifications (preferred but not required):
- Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) – ASQ
- Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt
- Lead Auditor certification (ISO 9001 or IATF 16949)
