AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we’re the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain — and we’re looking for talented people who want to help.
You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you’ll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.
Our Networking Analytics vision is to provide our customers a flawless experience when utilizing the network. With one of the Earth's largest networks, at our scale, unfortunately, there is always something breaking or failing. The first step in achieving this vision is by utilizing our vast amounts of data to gain insights on what to develop to enable the perfect network for our customers. Our internal customers are service teams such as S3, EC2, Lambda, RDS, as well as the amazon.com website, with our external customers being all retail/paying customers of AWS. The network is the core of AWS with this role critical to improve our customer experience.
Networking Analytics is looking for an experienced Data Scientist to be a part of a team solving complex data processing problems generating latency insights (building using big data, ML and potentially AI). This is a blue-sky role that gives you a chance to roll up your sleeves and dive into big data sets in order to build simulations and experimentation systems at scale, build optimization algorithms across Amazon. This is an opportunity to think big about how to solve a challenging problem for our customers and understand their requirements for products.
You will work closely with network engineers and technical leaders throughout Networking, and will be responsible for influencing technical decisions that you identify as critical to reduce the impact of failures on the network. You will identify both enablers and blockers of adoption for the Networking organisation, and will build programs to raise the bar in terms of actions that networking teams can take to reduce or prevent the impact for our customers as we continue to mitigate impact.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in science work, business analytics and have the aptitude to incorporate new approaches and methodologies while dealing with ambiguities in sourcing processes. Excellent business and communication skills are a must to develop and define key business questions and to build data sets that answer those questions. You should have a demonstrated ability to think strategically and analytically about business, product, and technical challenges. Further, you must have the ability to build and communicate compelling value propositions, and work across the organisation to achieve consensus. This role requires a strong passion for customers, a high level of comfort navigating ambiguity, and a keen sense of ownership and drive to deliver results.
