As a successful Senior Special Projects Technician I, you will work closely with Carbonโ€™s internal team to coordinate, manage and execute the delivery of high quality sample parts that help develop new products using the DLS technology.  This is a very cross-functional role requiring strong communication skills and a high attention to detail to ensure critical project milestones are met.  At Carbon we strive to make radically better products and that starts with this lab producing the best quality parts possible - the ideal candidate will have quality as a part of their DNA and will be a positive influence on the team and broader organization through a keen focus on continuous learning and improvement.

This role is based in our Redwood City, CA office and requires being onsite Monday-Friday. 6-7 am start time and 2:30-3:30pm end time.

Responsibilities

  • Preprocessing: Import, repair, and prep digital 3D files for printing     
  • Printing: Configure print jobs and submit for printing
  • Support removal: Remove support structure from 3D printed models
  • Finishing: Finish models as required (washing, pinning, etc.)
  • Research: Explore new techniques to constantly improve our processes
  • Troubleshooting: Determine optimal settings for any given print job

Documentation: Record project steps and decisions and share them with the engineering team

Requirements

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Detail oriented with a strong focus on delivering high quality products on short timelines
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously with competing deadlines ensuring alignment across various stakeholders
  • Demonstrated creative problem solving abilities with a positive attitude
  • Flexibility to adjust to a changing work environment
  • Ability to establish and follow consistent processes with the intention of continuous improvement & development
  • Experience with office productivity software for documentation, presentation, and data analysis (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Google Suite)

Bonus Skills (not required)

  • Experience with DLP, SLA or FDM printing technologies
  • Experience in product development or product design/manufacturing
  • Familiar with traditional manufacturing techniques (injection molding, urethane casting, CNC machining) and design for manufacturing
  • Understanding of good manufacturing practices including - inventorying/forecasting, continuous improvement, cleanliness & process optimization
  • BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Production Engineering or similar, with a focus in manufacturing tools & processes is a plus

At Carbon, we look at the person holistically and carefully consider a wide range of factors when determining salary. The compensation bracket for this position is $28.03 - $36.44 per hour. In order to maintain equitable internal pay practices, we aim to hire new employees near the midpoint of $32.21 per hour, taking into account your experience, work location, certifications, and the unique skills you bring to the role.
