Team Summary: 

The Mozilla Strategic Communications team is responsible for leading the Foundation’s conversation with the wider world. We ensure Mozilla is always speaking with a consistent, compelling voice that meets the moment. We serve as a trusted internal periscope into the audiences, channels, trends, and products relevant to Mozilla’s programs, mission and values – and generate appealing, inclusive, evergreen dialogues that build a global community of support for and engagement with the foundation. 

Position Summary: 

The Brand Communications officer will leverage visual design, messaging, internal/external strategic partnerships, events and editorial opportunities in service of strengthening our brand identity.   They will develop relevant, compelling, and audience-research informed messages about Mozilla Foundation’s strategy, programs and people, and our role within the Mozilla project.  Design messages that will increase our credibility and influence among key audiences.  Ensure leadership + staff are trained and supported in using our core messages across all communications channels and audiences.  

Craft and disseminate impactful narratives that highlight the organization’s mission and initiatives, supporting production of participatory multimedia content, including videos, articles, events, and social media campaigns, to engage audiences and promote the mission and products of the organization.

 

As a Brand Communications Officer at Mozilla Foundation, you will work on…

Brand Development - 40% of time

  • In partnership with the VP for Strategic Communications, develop and oversee the implementation of a strategic communications plan to increase the relevance of Mozilla Foundation’s positions and leadership within the tech industry and with the general public.
  • Develop relevant, compelling, and audience-research informed messages about Mozilla Foundation’s strategy, programs and people, and our role within the Mozilla project.  Design messages that will increase our credibility and influence among key audiences.  
  • With cross functional peers, develop and sustain an effective visual, written, and experiential brand identity for Mozilla Foundation that reinforces our strategies and aligns with the larger Mozilla brand. 

Internal Communications - 20% of time

  • Ensure leadership + staff are trained and supported in using our core messages across all communications channels and audiences.  
  • Work with pan Mozilla teams, namely the Mozilla Corporation communications teams, to develop aligned strategies and campaigns that advance pan Mozilla communications goals

Partnerships - 40% of time

  • Source and engage new external partnerships to facilitate brand extension and health, including/especially within the for profit tech sector, entertainment and media industry, and strategic activist communities.
  • Deliver fresh perspectives and warm leads on alliance and coalition building, ranging from creative editorial curation to live event collaborations to sponsorship opportunities for Mozilla products and events.
  • Prospect for fundraising opportunities allied to foundation goals.

 

Qualifications

  • 8+ years experience in strategic roles on the brand side, managing digital marketing, events, and/or partnership initiatives 
  • Prefer consumer insights experience from a fast-paced, highly-innovative consumer business, supporting innovation, brand development and strategy
  • Established experience in communications in the media and entertainment industries. Established relationships with members of the press and a proven ability to forge new relationships quickly and genuinely.
  • A strong understanding of corporate communications, with excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proven ability in project management and planning. 
  • Familiarity with priority industry organizations and a successful background in securing thought leadership opportunities.
  • Professional track record of developing and executing communications strategies in support of cross-functional launches and storytelling campaigns.
  • Savvy approach to social media and cross-platform content amplification.
  • An ability to work under tight deadlines and multi-task during busier periods.
  • Excellent judgment and innate problem-solving skills.
  • A collaborative approach to working with a wide range of people and personalities.
  • Strong understanding of the state of media and importance in communicating the value of technology innovation and digital rights.

Salary and Benefits Information:

The Mozilla Foundation is dedicated to fair and equitable compensation for our staff. We aim to pay a competitive and market-based salary based on the responsibilities and requirements of the role. We do not ask for, or take into account, salary histories in our offer process.

The starting salary ranges for this role are listed below. 

  • Canada: [$158,085.00 - $177,557.00] [target salary offer -$162,941.63]
  • US: [$117,100.00 - $131,523.70] [target salary offer - $120,697.50]
  • UK: [£75,880.80- £85,227.36]  [target salary offer £78,211.98 ]
  • Germany, Belgium, Ireland, Italy:[ €91,572.20 - €102,851.53]  [target salary offer - €94,385.45]

Some regions fall into a higher salary market and this is reflected in the example ranges below: 

  • New York and San Francisco : [$146,375.00 - $164,404.63] [target salary offer - $150,871.88]
  • London [£94,851.00- £106,534.20  [target salary offer - £97,764.98]
