Notion is an in person company, and currently requires its employees to come to the office for two Anchor Days (Mondays & Thursdays) and requests that employees spend the majority of their week in the office (including a third day).

About The Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Technical Accounting and Reporting Manager to join our fast-paced and dynamic finance team. This role will be responsible for maintaining the Company’s technical accounting policies, managing the financial reporting processes, and performing research and documentation to ensure compliance with US GAAP. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting for business combinations, stock-based compensation, lease accounting, internal-use software, revenue recognition, and other complex accounting areas relevant to a high-growth SaaS company. This role will also drive the internal and external financial reporting processes and collaborate cross-functionally with Finance, Legal, People and other teams within the organization.

This role is based in our San Francisco office and reports to our Head of Technical Accounting and Reporting.

What You'll Achieve**:**

Technical Accounting & Compliance:

  • Research, analyze, and interpret US GAAP to ensure compliance with complex accounting issues, including business combination, stock-based compensation, lease accounting, internal-use software, revenue recognition, and investment accounting.
  • Provide accounting guidance and implementation support for new accounting standards, acquisitions, and other business transactions.
  • Prepare and maintain technical accounting memos documenting the Company’s accounting policies and judgments.
  • Prepare journal entries for equity, acquisition, lease and other complex accounting areas.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Strategic Finance, Legal, People, Engineering) by providing accounting guidance on emerging business initiatives, complex agreements, and non-routine transactions.
  • Provide support to corporate accounting team to improve processes and internal controls for business transactions and the close process.

Financial Reporting & Compliance:

  • Lead the preparation of financial statements and disclosures in compliance with US GAAP.
  • Assist in preparing materials for monthly and quarterly close meetings, audit committee meetings, and other internal and external reporting .
  • Support the external audit process, including managing auditor requests and ensuring timely completion of audits.
  • Establish and maintain effective internal controls over financial reporting (ICFR) to ensure compliance.
  • Review statutory financial statements for foreign subsidiaries.

Process Improvement & System Implementation:

  • Develop and enhance accounting policies, processes, and internal controls to drive efficiency and scalability.
  • Assist in the implementation and enhancement of financial systems, including close tool, reporting tools and the equity system.
  • Collaborate with the Strategic Finance team to support accurate financial forecasting and management reporting.

Skills You'll Need to Bring**:**

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA required.
  • Experience: 6+ years of relevant experience, including public accounting (Big 4 preferred).
  • Technical Expertise: Deep knowledge of US GAAP, financial reporting, and accounting standards, including but not limited to ASC 805, ASC 718, ASC 842 and ASC 606.
  • Systems Knowledge: Experience with ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite), financial reporting tools, and advanced Excel skills.
  • Soft Skills: Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-growth environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Team Player: Ability to collaborate across departments and lead initiatives independently.

Nice to Haves**:**

  • Experience in a high-growth SaaS company at a similar stage.
  • Familiarity with SOX 404 compliance and internal controls frameworks.
  • Experience with SEC reporting is a plus.

Notion is committed to providing highly competitive cash compensation, equity, and benefits. The compensation offered for this role will be based on multiple factors such as location, the role’s scope and complexity, and the candidate’s experience and expertise, and may vary from the range provided below. For roles based in San Francisco, the estimated base salary range for this role is $150,000 - $190,000 per year.
