The Data Center Engineering Operations (DCEO) Team is the backbone of AWS, supporting the rapid growth of AWS business and customers 24x7. We commit to maintain the physical critical facility infrastructure of AWS and ensure the standards for operational performance in the areas of safety, security, availability, productivity, capacity, efficiency and cost. The DCEO Team is seeking individuals who are motivated, self-starters, eager to learn, passionate and committed to join us. Key job responsibilities
Key Job Responsibilities:

• Act as interface with the Colocation provider's technical and facility teams to address day-to-day operational requirements

• Act as interface with on-site Colocation providers and respective contractors to ensure all work performed complies with established practices, procedures & local legislation

• Monitor Colocation suppliers conducting routine maintenance, and respond to emergency services for critical systems including switchgear, generators, UPS systems, power distribution equipment, chillers, cooling towers, computer room air handlers, building monitoring systems, etc.

• Generate change management requests & incident management tickets for Data Center facility

• Engage in non-office on-call responsibilities and respond promptly to emergency situations or incidents, such as power failures or natural disasters; review and refine the established Emergency Operations Procedures to effectively handle these situations

• Work with Colocation provider and contractors to resolve infrastructure engineering issues and conduct root cause analysis for operational issues

• Participate in improvements to enhance data center safety, security and availability

• Facilitate rack installation and conduct rack space, power/cooling assessments

A day in the life
Also expected from the EOT is the ability to execute small-to-medium impacting projects from conception to completion. These projects involve moderate amounts of independent work as well as collaboration with external support groups including engineering, automation, processing, and finance in controlled environments. The EOT will be tasked with creating and delivering on key milestones, obtaining and tracking quotes for all necessary costs, and documenting project results. The goals of such projects are to drive innovation and resiliency while reducing operational costs in the facilities.

Responsibilities:

• Participate in 7x24 operations with flexibility for schedule changes depending on specific site needs. Shifts can be up to 12 hours and may rotate on a predefined schedule

• Provide timely escalation for all facilities-related issues within the data center

• Perform first-line troubleshooting and reporting of facility and high-criticality events within service level agreement (SLA)

• Provide assistance to junior and peer EOTs

• Oversee third-party vendors to ensure all work performed complies with established safety protocols, best practices, and local legislation

• Utilize administrative tools for change management, ticketing, and asset management

• Support project/stakeholder team and vendor activities

• Oversee all commissioning activities

• Complete assigned project tasks and manage associated reporting metrics

• Engage supporting teams for issue resolution

• Ensure compliance with AWS Data Center safety and security protocols

• Participate in day-to-day data center facility operations work including facility change management

• Manage vendor relationships and provide technical consultation

• Review emergency and standard operating procedures

• Participate in:

Facility event analysis
Emergency drills and emergency facility event response
Local and global facility operations-related projects
Multiple cross-team trainings

• Drive operational excellence and enhance customer experience

About the team
The Data Center Engineering Operations Team is a group committed to maintaining the critical data center infrastructure that supports Amazon Web Services. Specifically, this team works to ensure that the facility's Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing systems operate at near 100% availability while maintaining first-class customer service to the supporting teams and key stakeholders of the data centers.

- 1+ years of electrical or mechanical experience
- Knowledge of generic mechanical room infrastructure such as chillers, cooler units, and fan controls
- Knowledge of key electrical competencies and theory- Knowledge of mechanical systems (Mechanical, HVAC systems, Controls)
- Knowledge of BMS and EPMS control systems and data collection/trending
- 2+ years of electrical or mechanical experience
