About the Role

Windows and VMware Engineer: Supports and maintains all Windows and VMWare infrastructure across multiple datacenters.
Performs initial configuration in line with best practice. Ensures that all infrastructure remains patched and maintained in line with vendors recommendations. Carries out duties in line with Verifone’s change process. Recommends improvements and optimizations to improve the overall reliability, performance and cost of the VCS platform.

What you'll do

The Windows and VMware Engineer is responsible for managing and maintaining VCS’s Microsoft Windows and VMWare estate. An incumbent will work as a member of the multi-disciplined Server Team where we encourage cross skilling and learning.  The role demands the ability to implement, maintain, administer and troubleshoot multiple Windows domain and ESXi clusters across a large datacenter footprint. Windows and  VMware virtualized environment will be your focus, ensuring all infrastructure is patched and maintained. In addition, the Windows and VMWare Engineer will participate in engineering process improvements, incident response, and capacity resource estimates to the Solution Delivery and Operations teams, provide technical status for the deliverables assigned and track them to closure. The candidate personifying this role will be expected to work in a fast-paced, multi-dimensional work environment and must possess excellent inter-personal, written, and verbal communication skills. A sense of urgency, self-motivation, accountability and commitment are some of the desired attributes. 

What qualifications will you need to be successful? 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Complete BAU tasks, escalating where exceptions occur
  • Respond to and escalate service incidents, ensuring all incidents are resolved within SLA
  • Develop and implement new BAU tasks and manage change within BAU task procedures
  • Complete acceptance testing of new releases and patches, providing technical feedback to Development
  • Manage the deployment of system changes and maintenance tasks during specified maintenance windows
  • Perform as part of a team, respond to Customer RFPs
  • Preparation of technical documentation and SLA reporting
  • Perform as part of a team providing 24/7/365 on-call support by responding to escalations, alerts, incidence and problems that affect the environment and payment systems the team is responsible for Process compliance
  • Perform as part of a project delivery team if/when assigned
  • Perform in a role as a subject matter expert in support of the environment and applications assigned
  • Provide hands on support on VMware ESXi and Windows server 2008/20012/20016/2019 operating systems
  • Manage and maintain GPO’s
  • WSUS patching
  • Manage the VMWare capacity and provide monthly usage. Highlight any issues to line manager
  • Responsible for providing regular status updates, issues, concerns to management
  • Apply a sense of urgency, commitment and focus on the right priorities in developing solutions in a timely fashion
  • Review documentation and change control for technical accuracy
  • Participate in product evaluation initiatives including feature analysis and system trade-offs
  • Provide support and input for PCI audits and security compliance
  • Perform other duties as necessary

Knowledge & Experience

  • Bachelor’s / Master’s Degree in Computer Science, or equivalent experience
  • Enterprise-level experience in Windows administration
  • 10+ years in hands-on systems implementation and administration
  • ITIL Foundation certification

Skills/Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of Networking components, Load balancers , Firewalls, routers, switches
  • Advanced PowerShell scripting
  • Experience is using PowerCli to administer Vcenter
  • Working knowledge of monitoring solutions, such Zabbix
  • Has previously worked with backup solutions, such as Veeam
  • Has experience working with antivirus solutions such as CrowdStrike
  • Working experience with SSL certs, installing, ordering , etc
  • Experience in the payment industry is a plus
  • Working experience with change management ticketing systems and process, i.e. Service Now
  • Knowledge of PCI requirements 3.x is a plus
  • Experience in an enterprise environment
  • Experience of Ansible
  • VMWare VCP certified
  • Microsoft MCSE certified
