Amazon Music Search team is seeking an experienced Applied Science Manager who will join a team of experts in the field of machine learning/AI, and work together to break new ground in the world of understanding and classifying different forms of music, and creating interactive experiences to help users find the music they are in the mood for. We work on machine learning problems for music classification, recommender systems, dialogue systems, NLP, and music information retrieval. As the manager of Applied Science, you are responsible for defining and executing on the science vision. You will lead a team of scientists and engineers to work backwards from customer needs and translate product ideas into concrete deliverables. You will be the thought leader for inventing scalable AI solutions that support flexible UI frameworks. You will empower your team to solve hard problems, advance science at Amazon, and be the leading innovator in music search.

Key job responsibilities
- As a manager, you will be responsible for researching, implementing, delivering and maintaining critical NLP and machine learning/AI capabilities at amazon music search.
- You will prioritize being a great people manager: motivating, rewarding, and coaching your team is the most important part of this role. You will recruit and retain top talent and excel in day-to-day people and performance management tasks.
- You will keep your technical skills current to contribute to architecture and design discussions.
- You will regularly take part in deep-dive troubleshooting exercises and drive technical post-mortem discussions to identify the root cause of complex issues.
- Set a vision for your team and create project roadmaps. Help your team sort out technical and product requirements and priorities. Use project management skills to deliver product roadmap items and other cross-team projects.

- 3+ years of building machine learning models for business application experience
- Knowledge of ML, NLP, Information Retrieval and Analytics
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience communicating with users, other technical teams, and management to collect requirements, describe software product features, and technical designs- Experience building complex software systems, especially involving deep learning, machine learning and computer vision, that have been successfully delivered to customers
- Experience in applied research
- Strong publication record at top ML conferences and journals
