We are looking for a Director, Finance Policy and External Reporting to lead the team responsible for external financial reporting, external audits, complex accounting and internal controls. Reporting to the VP, Finance, you’ll be working on aligning financial processes, driving process improvements, and providing strategic direction and guidance, leading a diverse and engaged team.
In line with Hootsuite's distributed workforce strategy, our flexible work arrangement allows for remote work or a hybrid model. This role is open to applicants located within the EST or CST time zones in Canada or the United States. In this role, you will report to the VP, Finance.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
- Lead and guide a diverse team of finance professionals by establishing clear objectives, focusing on hiring, coaching, and mentoring, providing consistent feedback, creating professional advancement opportunities, and fostering a culture that emphasizes Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DE&I).
- Provide strategic leadership and oversight to financial reporting, internal control, technical accounting and policy, audit functions and M&A integration.
- Act as a key thought partner to the VP, Finance and Hootsuite's senior finance leadership, overseeing and innovating accounting and finance operations within a dynamic environment, while leading and orchestrating collaboration with key stakeholders to drive transformative change projects that streamline and standardize Enterprise-wide financial processes, enhancing overall efficiency and effectiveness.
- Oversee and strategize financial reporting, steering monthly, quarterly, and annual processes, staying ahead of industry accounting standards and best practices, orchestrating complex accounting issue resolutions, and spearheading ERP system risk management to align and comply with financial processes and regulatory standards.
- Develop and manage external relationships with auditors, investors, the Board of Directors, the Audit Committee, and vendors, representing Hootsuite with the utmost professionalism and strategic insight.
- Work closely with external auditors and lead the coordination of internal resources to ensure timely completion of annual consolidated and statutory audits across multiple global entities.
- Maintain proper documentation and seek out process improvements to enhance productivity/controls and coordinate the implementation of new or upgraded processes and controls.
- Accounting for complex transactions such as those related to mergers and acquisitions (M&A), debt financing, corporate reorganization, etc.
- Support M&A activities including financial due diligence and integration efforts.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED:
- CPA designation, with an active membership in good standing
- Bachelor’s degree or higher (Accounting, Finance or equivalent)
- Broad and varied experience in progressive accounting, including experience in financial reporting and consolidation or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum 10 years of experience leading, strategizing, and driving innovative financial initiatives, achieving organizational alignment and driving significant transformative change
- Strong knowledge of US GAAP/International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and Internal Controls over Financial Reporting (ICFR)
- Ability to quickly grasp the essence of complex issues, diagnose multi-dimensional problems, develop recommendations to address them and drive solutions
- Strong knowledge of relevant auditing standards and external auditor methodologies
- Experience with ERP and business technologies (NetSuite experience an asset)
