What We Do

Push your artistic talent to the limit on a team of world-class environment, character and concept artists who strive to innovate and inspire.

TECHNICAL ART INTERN, LONDON LAB

What You’ll Do

The Walt Disney Company and Epic Games are collaborating on an all-new games and entertainment universe.

In addition to being a world-class games experience, this new persistent universe will offer a multitude of opportunities for consumers to play, watch, and engage with content, characters, and stories from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, Avatar, and more.

Players, gamers, and fans of all kinds will be able to create their own stories and experiences, express their fandom in a distinctly Disney way, and share content with each other in ways that they love. Come join us in creating the future of interactive entertainment.

Within the London Lab (LL) team, you’ll be guided by our internal artists and learn from them.

This role is focused on creating and implementing high-visual quality art for our partnership with Disney.  Working with Unreal Engine (UE) and Unreal Editor Fortnite (UEFN), you’ll be taking on a broad range of tasks to help build engaging experiences either as a prototype or as complete games.

Our office is an exciting, busy space where we often engage with like-minded artists, creators, and technicians. As a hub of technology, we aim to both support and inspire this community by showcasing the latest projects and technology on our Virtual Production stage.

As a member of the Innovation Lab team, you will be at the forefront of ideas.  We are looking for candidates who are conceptual as well as executional. Exploring new ideas requires adaptability and the ability to nimbly iterate on ideas with your colleagues.

In this role you will

  • Be part of a team responsible for innovating and producing awesome real-time experiences, working collaboratively with our partners at Disney under the supervision of the LL team.
  • Learn to craft games and experiential projects, varying in context across the entire Fortnite and Unreal ecosystem.
  • Use a multitude of techniques and workflows to create assets in and out of the engine.
  • Confidently execute tasks and take initiative on improving other areas of the project suggesting efficiency in workflows.

What we’re looking for

  • A keen eye for details and problem-solving, creatively driven with diverse knowledge of the Unreal engine.
  • A base knowledge of various DCC programs.
  • Technically minded and self-motivated for upskilling across various software.
  • Understanding of the workflows around asset creation:  how to efficiently implement assets into Unreal engine, optimize and iterate on their visual quality through manipulating textures, shaders and LOD's.
  • A good understanding of rigging, blueprints, and technical animation.
  • A good understanding of shader building
  • Creativity in problem-solving and a positive, respectful team-first attitude.
  •  Able to take feedback and critique to iterate on work to completion.

Nice to have skills

  • Knowledge of tool development
  • Knowledge of Niagara particle systems for FX work.
  • Knowledge of VFX workflows: understanding cinematics and creating previs to sequences.
  • Knowledge of building games in UEFN.

This internship has a flexible start date in 2025. Recruitment will be ongoing until teams find an ideal match. Applicants must be legally authorised to work in the posting location for the duration of the internship. For more information about Epic’s Early Career Program, visit epicgames.com/earlycareers.
