Engineering Manager - Webhooks

We are seeking  a hands-on, results-driven Engineering Manager with extensive experience in leading teams that support critical systems in high-load environments.
As a part of the team, you will help to shape the next version of Adyen’s Webhooks Framework by collaborating with Product and Engineering teams. Webhooks are a crucial tool for our customers to integrate with Adyen; therefore our webhooks product needs to deliver up to our promises of low latency, accuracy, and being extremely reliable while doing so. Our goal as a team is to productize Webhooks whilst looking at the scalability challenges and our customers’ needs.

This role offers a unique opportunity to be technically hands-on while thriving in a team that builds and maintains critical systems in high-load environments. You will play a key role in shaping technical decisions, driving requirements, and ensuring the performance of a new, high-impact system. A strong understanding of user experience is essential, as well as the ability to challenge technical decisions and contribute directly to the system's architecture and implementation.

In addition to your technical responsibilities, your role also includes: focuses on coaching individuals to maintain high standards of performance, overseeing people management, fostering open communication and clearly communicating priorities.
Therefore, your communication skills are just as important as your technical skills. Additionally, your ability to promote a positive work environment and contribute to a strong company culture is equally valuable.

As an Engineering Manager for Webhooks, you will: 

  • Work closely with Product and Engineering teams to define and deliver the next version of Webhooks at Adyen.
  • Ensure reliability, performance and scalability; webhooks are part of Adyen's critical flows.
  • Lead hands-on by actively participating in technical discussions, code reviews, and system design to ensure best practices are followed.  
  • Ensure high performance by mentoring and coaching engineers, setting a high-quality bar.
  • Foster an inspiring and inclusive team culture of ownership, autonomy, collaboration, accountability and open communication/feedback.
  • Manage stakeholders by leveraging your network to align and implement a new Webhooks solution across Adyen.

Who you are:

  • You have 3+ years of experience leading engineering teams and delivering impactful, scalable solutions.  
  • Reliability and scalability are priorities for you, and you have experience working with critical, high-load, distributed systems.
  • You have strong technical expertise in Java (or Kotlin, Scala, Groovy), RabbitMQ, Elasticsearch, Cassandra.
  • You are hands-on and collaborative, engaging deeply together with your team’s work while fostering a supportive and learning-driven environment.  
  • You set a high bar and ensure your team delivers high-quality, maintainable code and solutions that scale.  
  • You are a strong mentor and coach, helping your team grow while maintaining high performance and accountability.  
  • You have a growth mindset, constantly learning and adopting new practices to stay ahead of industry trends.
