Job Description

Our cross-functional Engineering teams develop scalable and secure microservices and APIs for the different domains of our product. As Platform Engineer you are not only an individual contributor but support your team with a strong customer-centric mindset and a drive to take on ownership over product capabilities or technical components. Two-week sprints based on Scrum help our teams to self-organize their tasks and continuously improve the way they work to deliver value through our products for our customers. The Platform teams have a few different topics we are working on, you can take a look at the Platform Engineer - Cloud Infrastructure role for more information on the scope of everything we do.

WHAT IS WAITING FOR YOU?

As part of one Platform Team, you'll work on optimizing visibility, reliability, and cultivating a 'shift-left' approach:

  • Elevate observability by enabling the engineering teams with sophisticated Application Performance Monitoring (APM), Real User Monitoring (RUM), and Infrastructure Monitoring. We don't just build monitoring systems; we empower engineers.
  • Enhance and streamline our alerting systems, driving towards a proactive and actionable incident response paradigm.
  • Implement and upgrade efficient logging systems, always maintaining stringent security and privacy standards.
  • Manage and optimize our primary data stores alongside secure and efficient disaster recovery (DR) mechanisms.

Passionate colleagues who are looking forward to share knowledge (see our blog!) and learn from you.

You will be part of our larger development organization and contribute to cross-team knowledge building & sharing - with explicit options to share your knowledge across our entire company and beyond, e.g. on conferences

WHY SHOULD YOU CARE? Well, there are multiple reasons:

  • We have invested a lot in a working environment that allows everyone to thrive. We believe in open access to leadership, transparent communication, personal development and that our world-class team deserves the best software stack money can buy.
  • We're solving hard engineering challenges at a large scale, which requires creativity and very strong engineering knowledge.
  • We have a culture of empowered product teams, which means you're not just executing a roadmap that someone hands to you, but you actually get problems to solve. And from that, we value and reward outcomes, not just output.
  • We build it, we run it! We are not just building and delivering features, but we also make sure our customers can rely on them. This means we value resilience, a high degree of automation and staying ahead of our customers whenever something goes wrong.
  • We prioritize continuous improvement, collaboration and sharing knowledge. As a product team, we also want to continuously improve our products by validating and measuring how users are using them.
  • We value work-life balance, support working remotely or on-site, and we believe a well-rested and well-rounded person with interests outside their job is the best engineer. We offer flexible working hours, so you can adapt your job to your life.

WHAT IS OUR STACK?

  • Microsoft Azure, Kubernetes, and Istio
  • Modern CI/CD and infrastructure tool chain: Argo CD, GitHub Actions, Terraform, Ansible
  • Monitoring & Alerting, e.g., Instana, Grafana, Fluent Bit, PagerDuty
  • Java & Kotlin using microservice frameworks such as Dropwizard, Quarkus and Spring Boot
  • PostgreSQL, Event Streaming, Redis, Elasticsearch, Kafka
  • API Technologies such as REST and GraphQL
  • Find out more about our stack

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

  • Solve problems and deliver customer value
  • Have working knowledge of administrating Kubernetes and container orchestration.
  • Experience in Application Performance Monitoring (APM), Real User Monitoring (RUM), Infrastructure Monitoring and other observability tools.
  • Have a deep understanding of public cloud providers, with a strong preference for experience with Azure.
  • Build and maintain distributed services with Kotlin/Java
  • Familiarity with cloud automation tools like Terraform is also highly valued.
  • Working knowledge of PostgreSQL.
  • Experienced in managing secure secrets with e.g. HashiCorp Vault or Azure Key Vault.
  • Take ownership and drive topics
  • Work in a product and customer focussed team

Additionally :

  • 3 to 5 years working experience
  • Working proficiency with our stack
  • Working experience with Terraform and Kubernetes
  • Open communication style
