Manager, In vitro Discovery (South San Francisco)

We are seeking an outstanding, innovative, and creative Manager to join our antibody discovery effort. This Manager will play multiple roles within the Pharma group and will help oversee a team responsible for antibody discovery utilizing a number of in vitro display technologies, e.g. phage display, ribosome display, and yeast display.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Leads a small team (3-5 people) within the in vitro discovery group. Will manage all activities of the team and key project deliverables in area of responsibility.
  • Help train and supervise research associates.
  • Lead biopharma programs to maintain project timeline and report progress regularly to the project team and external stakeholders.
  • Have solid knowledge in antibody phage display or other related display technology.
  • Work collaboratively under aggressive timelines.
  • Will coach, develop and mentor team. Will cover all aspects of management including performance management,
  • Oversee library construction, selection and screening to identify desirable antibodies against diverse targets, including cell expression targets.

What You’ll Bring to the Team

  • PhD or equivalent in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Protein Engineering or related field; MS / MA with 3-5 years industry experience.
  • Extensive skills in molecular biology and antibody engineering methods/best practices and applications.
  • Experience with at least one of the antibody display technologies, such as phage, ribosome or yeast required.
  • Extensive use of scientific databases and applications for data management and data analysis, including, but not limited to, DNA sequence analysis of antibody genes.
  • Experience in antibody or protein characterization.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • D. or M.S. with antibody engineering experience
  • Previous management experience preferred but not required
  • Postdoctoral experience preferred but not required
  • Experience with library design and construction for both discovery and antibody optimization
  • Experience with cytometry and FACS is preferred
  • Desire to work in a dynamic start-up environment is essential
  • Ability to multitask and thrive in a fast-paced and challenging environment
  • Work cross functionally within and across the department effectively as a team-player
  • Excellent problem-solving capabilities

The base cash compensation for this California-based role is below. In addition to base salary, this role is eligible for bonus, equity, and a generous benefits package. Final compensation amounts are determined by multiple factors, including candidate skill, experience, expertise, and location and may vary from the amount listed above. Compensation may be different in other locations.San Francisco Bay Area Pay Range$135,263β€”$159,600 USD
