Sr Engineering Manager - Billing

The Team & Role

You will be leading an engineering team under Zuora’s Billing product line. Zuora was named a Leader in the 2024 Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ for Recurring Billing. You’ll be joining a team with cutting-edge technologies, handling complex business problems and building mission-critical SaaS systems that are distributed and scalable.

This is a position in Bangalore that requires you to come into the office regularly to be most effective.

This role will also require you to collaborate closely with teams in other countries as well.

Our Tech Stack: 

• Java, Spring/Spring Boot, Hibernate/Mybatis, or other object oriented programming languages or application framework in a high-scaled, large distributed environment.
• RDBMS (e.g. MySql, Postgres); Non-Relational DB ( MongoDB, DynamoDB), Message Queues (e.g. ActiveMQ, Kafka) and distributed cache systems
• Microservice Architecture
• Cloud-native
• RESTful, SOAP & Graph APIs

What you’ll do

As an engineering manager, your overall goal is to keep the team productive and engaged as well as ensure the best quality of the deliverables.

• Advocate engineering excellence. Leading by example with respect to code quality, testability and documentation.
• Continuously refining the team's ability to set clear priorities, estimate effort and set accurate expectations regarding delivery dates.
• Supporting product managers as they work with the team to deliver product features
• Moderating the collaboration between team members and senior engineering leaders on the design and implementation of new architectural patterns.
• Supporting established organizational objectives by developing goals, strategies and localizing the OKRs to the teams.
• Managing team dynamics and inspiring collective morale
• Fostering a strong culture of customer empathy, encouraging the team to focus first on solving customer problems
• Participating in the process of locating, screening and interviewing engineering candidates. Foster and grow engineering talent

Your experience

• BS/MS/PHD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or relevant degree.  
• 8+ years’ experience building software products, particularly high-scaled large distributed web applications.
• 5+ years managing one or multiple engineering teams.
• Strong and extensive hands-on experience in building highly scalable web applications.
• Proven track records in owning and delivering commercial software products, ideally in a SAAS setting.
• Experience/Knowledge of cloud hyperscalers like AWS, Azure OR Google Cloud.
• Have strong communication skills complemented with the right technical skills to drive meaningful discussions.

Nice to have:

• Experience with frontend technologies (react, angular, etc.)
• Ability to work across multiple teams in the organization; self-directed and works well with ambiguity in a fast paced and continuously evolving environment.
• Experience with product/featgen-AI is a plus.
