Software Developers at H5P work in and across teams of other developers, testers, designers, product managers, and many more roles to release reliable, high-quality software solutions that enable accessible and engaging learning and teaching experiences.

What you’ll bring to the role:

  • Build and support high quality, high performing, scalable and secure software, while solving both technical and non-technical challenges.  
  • Contribute as a member of a cross-functional agile development team including developers, testers, designers, product managers and a development manager.   
  • Create, maintain, upgrade, and implement software code, coding guidelines, tools, processes, and metrics.  
  • Perform code reviews based on industry best practices while applying expertise in multiple programming languages. Code reviews may be outside of your primary team. 
  • Proactively contributes to D2L technology, identifying challenges, anticipating risks, and developing scalable solutions to complex problems across multiple products.   
  • Contribute to team processes and actively participate in analysis, with ability to communicate technical information across teams.  
  • Leverage understanding of technical problems, department and D2L objectives to identify solutions to novel problems and challenges that may impact both internal teams and D2L customers.   
  • Comprehend and provide guidance on required technologies, standards and methodologies to be used with the team and/or department, as required. 
  • Support developed software as required, iterating on technical designs, and playing a role in deployment and addressing technical issues.

Skills 

  • Coding – Proficient coding skills across a variety of languages (i.e.:  C#, JavaScript, etc.) 
  • Ability to conduct thorough code reviews and provide constructive feedback to other developers 
  • Can research, create proof of concepts, and introduce new technologies to the team 
  • Testing – Extensive experience in writing and maintaining tests and testable code 
  • Debugging – Can read code effectively to reason out where a bug lies, knows where to begin investigations into problems and takes a pragmatic approach 
  • Accountability - owns the production operation and monitoring of the system and is aware of its SLAs 
  • Architectural Design – knows how much time to spend architecting their code, refining, gathering feedback on, and communicating 
  • Security – Understands, identifies, and implements security best practices 
  • Privacy – Understands PII and how we need to handle private data 
  • Strong communication skills for technical discussions and collaboration

Suggested Qualifications/Experience:  

  • Desire to build – Developers should be driven to build and refine. Knows when to build things well and when to build things quickly 
  • Focus on Quality – We expect that all developers have a strong focus on delivering high quality code and features  
  • Experience with source control (GitHub) and working in CI/CD environments (GitHub Actions) considered an asset. 
  • Experience with Cloud Hosting (AWS, Google Cloud, Azure, etc.) and infrastructure-as-Code, such as Terraform or CloudFormation, considered an asset. 
  • Strong Computer Science fundamentals including OO design, data structures, algorithms, databases, distributed systems, security, caching, human computer interaction. 
  • Understanding of accessibility and why it matters
