Job Description

Remote

This is Adyen

Adyen provides payments, data, and financial products in a single solution for customers like Meta, Uber, H&M, and Microsoft - making us the financial technology platform of choice. At Adyen, everything we do is engineered for ambition.

For our teams, we create an environment with opportunities for our people to succeed, backed by the culture and support to ensure they are enabled to truly own their careers. We are motivated individuals who tackle unique technical challenges at scale and solve them as a team. Together, we deliver innovative and ethical solutions that help businesses achieve their ambitions faster.

ESG Controller

We’re looking for a data-driven ESG Controller to join our Group Financial Controlling team. In this newly created role, you will manage ESG data, ensure compliance with emerging regulatory frameworks, and integrate ESG metrics into our financial processes. You will also play a key role in embedding greenhouse gas (GHG) accounting principles into our sustainability reporting. As the ESG Controller, you will collaborate closely with the ESG Reporting Specialist and cross-functional teams, driving our sustainability reporting efforts and embedding ESG metrics into our financial framework.

Being part of the centralized Financial Controlling team in Amsterdam means you’ll be working in the (financial) engine room of a registered and listed financial institution; being part of a relatively small team means you’ll be (in)directly involved in a lot of very interesting topics that reach beyond ESG.

What you’ll do

  • Collect, validate, and manage ESG and GHG emissions data across multiple sources, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulations like CSRD and standards such as GHG Protocol.
  • Integrate ESG and GHG data into financial reporting, the annual report, and disclosures, ensuring alignment with company goals and industry standards.
  • Support the preparation of sustainability reports, including carbon footprint disclosures, and collaborate with stakeholders to identify reduction opportunities.
  • Work with internal teams to improve ESG and GHG data workflows, implement robust controls, and develop scalable processes for efficient data management.
  • Conduct in-depth data analysis to identify trends, risks, and opportunities, providing actionable insights to inform decision-making and strategy.
  • Partner with the FP&A team to embed ESG and GHG metrics into financial planning, ensuring alignment with our sustainability objectives.
  • Stay informed about evolving ESG and climate-related reporting requirements, standards, and best practices, proactively incorporating them into reporting frameworks.
  • Work with the controlling team on controlling related tasks, ad-hoc requests from various internal and external stakeholders.

Who you are

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Environmental Science, or a related field. Advanced degrees or certifications (e.g., CFA, CPA, ESG certification, GHG Accounting, or CDP) are highly valued.
  • 3–5 years of experience in financial reporting, data management, sustainability reporting, or GHG accounting, with familiarity in frameworks such as CSRD, GRI, or TCFD.
  • Strong knowledge of GHG Protocol, carbon accounting methodologies, and emissions reporting.
  • Experience developing and managing SOX-compliant processes and systems that scale across global organizations.
  • Exceptional analytical skills with a focus on accuracy, attention to detail, and actionable outcomes.
  • Proven ability to collaborate across departments and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • A proactive learner who stays up-to-date with emerging ESG and climate-related standards and is passionate about sustainability and its integration into business practices.
