We are seeking a Facilities & Equipment Manager to lead infrastructure, utility, and equipment enablement across Project Kuiper’s development labs. Embedded within the Development Operations (DevOps) organization, this leader will oversee facilities changes, infrastructure support, and custom equipment maintenance that are critical to enabling flexible, scalable lab environments.
You will build and manage a team responsible for installing, commissioning, maintaining, and modifying specialty equipment and lab utilities. You will maintain complex mechanical, electrical, and vacuum systems to ensure efficient operations and reliable testing, directly supporting hardware development from early testing through launch readiness and production scaling. You will work closely with interdisciplinary engineering teams to anticipate evolving needs, ensuring infrastructure and equipment support Kuiper’s hardware development and mission success.
You will have broad scope and autonomy to proactively bridge gaps between equipment concept, facilities execution, and operational readiness.
Key job responsibilities
- Build and lead a team responsible for lab infrastructure support, utility management, and maintenance of development equipment.
- Serve as the primary liaison to Amazon’s broader Facilities organization, site operations teams, external vendors, and landlords for all utility and building modifications.
- Plan and manage infrastructure upgrades and utility drops (electrical, chilled water, compressed air, vacuum, LN2) to enable new labs, test equipment, and facility expansions.
- Support the maintenance, servicing, and modification of specialized, in-house-designed test equipment and tooling alongside Design Engineers and Lab Engineers.
- Develop and execute maintenance schedules and preventative service plans for both facility utilities and specialized test hardware.
- Implement and maintain a critical-spares system to ensure maximum uptime and rapid recovery for critical equipment and infrastructure.
- Build a multi-year Operational and Capital Expense (OpEx/CapEx) budget aligned with the development organization's strategic 3-year roadmap.
- Partner with engineering and operations teams to define, document, and execute infrastructure requirements for new projects, labs, and equipment installations.
- Maintain a comprehensive infrastructure map, risk tracking system, and contingency plans for all DevOps-controlled areas.
- Oversee vendor work execution, ensuring on-time delivery, compliance with standards, and minimal disruption to development schedules.
- Coordinate landlord approvals, permitting processes, and code compliance activities needed for equipment installation and facility modifications.
- Drive process improvements for lab operations, utility upgrades, and equipment servicing to support Kuiper’s rapid development needs.- 5+ years managing facilities infrastructure, lab utilities, or engineering support equipment in R&D, testing, or mission-critical environments.
- Proven experience delivering complex facility upgrades and equipment commissioning projects involving cross-functional and external teams.
- Working knowledge of HVAC, compressed air, chilled water, electrical distribution, vacuum systems, and cryogenic gas systems.
- Experience maintaining custom or specialized test equipment and implementing structured maintenance and critical-spares strategies.
- Strong judgment, technical acumen, and cross-functional communication skills in high-ambiguity, fast-paced environments.- Prior experience managing a team supporting infrastructure and equipment maintenance
- Familiarity with engineering development labs supporting aerospace, defense, satellite hardware, or advanced hardware environments.
- Strong program management skills including infrastructure project planning, commissioning, and vendor oversight.
- Experience working with landlords, permitting agencies, and ensuring building and EHS code compliance for equipment and facility changes.
- Ability to anticipate infrastructure risks and build scalable, sustainable support models for rapidly evolving development environments.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $137,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $292,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
