About the team

The Cards team at Stripe is responsible for the infrastructure, user facing features, and business of accepting credit, debit, and pre-paid card payments. Delivering the best offering for processing credit, debit, and prepaid cards is critical to Stripe’s mission, given the central role card payments play in internet commerce.  

What you’ll do

As a Product Lead for Cost platform at Stripe, you will be devising strategy, developing product requirements, managing PMs and overseeing execution for some of the highest impact initiatives that serve both our customers - helping them understand, reduce and manage their payment costs - and internal stakeholders - helping Stripe manage its own. 

At Stripe, Product Managers help build innovative payments products for our customers. Product development is an extremely collaborative effort between engineering, design, analytics, operations and customer-facing teams. You’d be joining a team of experienced Product Managers who have a track record of successfully building large-scale business and consumer products that are collectively impacting millions of users around the world.

On a day to day basis you would spend your time split between external meetings with customers and internal discussions with your engineering, marketing, analytics, partnership and sales counterparts; as well as with your direct reports, coaching, mentoring, and hiring. This role will provide the opportunity to develop the strategy for one of Stripe’s core products, a top user functionality as well as a key component of our P&L, and get feedback on your plans directly from Stripe’s leadership team.

 Responsibilities:

  • Engage with merchants to understand their current experience in managing payment costs, associated pain points and opportunities
  • Work with GTM teams (Sales, Account Management) to define how to expand or improve our payment cost products to meet the needs of all our users
  • Work with Business Development and Partnership to represent our product and users in negotiation with card networks or other financial partners
  • Collaborate with Engineering to develop Stripe’s payment cost capabilities roadmap
  • Work with Finance to understand the costs of Stripe’s current processing capabilities and drive improvements
  • Work with Deal pricing and marketing to inform our decision on how to price Stripe’s Card processing products globally 
  • Work with Operations to improve the way we manage our costs in an ever evolving payment landscape 

 Who you are

We’re looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. If you meet these requirements, you are encouraged to apply. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.

Minimum requirements:

  • 3+ years of managing product managers, 8+ years as a product manager
  • Experience leading cross-team initiatives from ideation to execution
  • Technical expertise: You’ve led technical products and/or have a background in computer science (or similar)
  • Experience building both new products (0->1) as well as a track record of shipping continuous product improvements to an existing product portfolio
  • Deep user empathy and a high bar for user experience
  • Persistence and a whatever-it-takes approach to ensure that your product is successful
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills 

Nice to haves:

    • Experience in Payments, working with Card Networks or Banking partners.
    • Experience managing a P&L and implementing the right operational rigor to monitor it
    • Experience in external facing role (sales, partnerships) and business negotiations
    • Experience overseeing operational processes or managing operational teams
