Who we are looking for:

As one of the leaders and change drivers in programmatic advertising, The Trade Desk is transforming the way we monetize and consume content. Our industry is complicated, but we don’t believe our platform should be. That’s why the UX team at The Trade Desk is re-imagining and simplifying the user experience. And education is central to that endeavor. As a Senior Technical Content Designer, you’ll play a key role in helping users leverage our platform to meet their campaign goals and helping partners of The Trade Desk to swiftly integrate into our ecosystem.  

We’re looking for a great communicator, both verbal and in writing, with strong technical aptitude and the ability to learn quickly. You’re inquisitive, asking great questions and digging deep with subject matter experts to understand our platform and our users. Your questions not only lead to simple, useful, organized content, but they can influence the quality and success of the product. 

What you’ll be doing:

The Senior Technical Content Designer (API) will create technical content primarily for developers who are working with our platform. You’ll join a high-performing team of technical writers and report to the Lead Senior Staff Technical Writer. As a member of this team, you’ll work with product managers, engineers, and many others throughout the organization to understand the product and create helpful, clear, accurate documentation. You will also engage in meaningful initiatives driven by our team as we re-envision the information experience for our customers and address the needs of a growing global customer base.  

  • Writing clear, accurate, helpful, timely, well-organized documentation for a developer audience in Markdown and HTML  

  • Working with product managers, engineers, technical account managers, and others to understand product and customer goals 

  • Updating API and integration documentation in public and private GitHub repositories 

  • Using Git to merge updates from your local branches into the master repository as part of content delivery to our developer portals  

  • Monitoring and responding to user feedback to understand customer needs 

 

Requirements:

  • 7+ years technical writing experience 

  • Experience documenting SDKs, RESTful and GraphQL APIs; writing integration guides 

  • Proven ability to write high-quality technical documentation  

  • Familiarity with best practices in technical writing, for example, single sourcing, following a department style guide, and writing for localization and accessibility 

  • Deep familiarity with GitHub, GitLab, Visual Studio Code, or similar tools 

  • Ability to work with languages such as Markdown, HTML, XML, CSS, or YAML to write, edit, and troubleshoot deliverables 

  • Familiarity with common productivity and communication tools (Jira, Confluence, Slack) 

  • Experience creating visuals such as workflow, integration, entity diagrams using common tools like Lucidchart, Mermaid, or Visio. 

  • Strong research, requirements gathering, planning, writing, editing, proofreading, and communication skills 

  • Ability to write end-user documentation and UI copy if needed 

  • Ability to develop cross-functional rapport and relationships with product managers, engineers, product marketing managers, account managers, and others 

  • Ability to learn complex systems quickly and become a product expert 

  • A self-starter, with great attention to detail, strong time-management and decision-making skills, eager to learn and take new assignments 

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and handle frequent context-switching 

  • Commitment to creating high-quality developer documentation experience 

  • Degree in English, Technical Writing, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent experience 

 

Highly Desired: 

  • Experience in digital advertising technology and concepts 

  • Familiarity with Open API Specification, Postman

CO, CA, IL, NY, WA, and Washington DC residents only: In accordance with CO, CA, IL, NY, WA, and Washington DC law, the range provided is The Trade Desk's reasonable estimate of the base compensation for this role. The actual amount may differ based on non-discriminatory factors such as experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and location. All employees may be eligible to become The Trade Desk shareholders through eligibility for stock-based compensation grants, which are awarded to employees based on company and individual performance. The Trade Desk also offers other compensation depending on the role such as sales-based incentives and commissions. Plus, expected benefits for this role include comprehensive healthcare (medical, dental, and vision) with premiums paid in full for employees and dependents, retirement benefits such as a 401k plan and company match, short and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, well-being benefits, reimbursement for certain tuition expenses, parental leave, sick time of 1 hour per 30 hours worked, vacation time for full-time employees up to 120 hours thru the first year and 160 hours thereafter, and around 13 paid holidays per year.  Employees can also purchase The Trade Desk stock at a discount through The Trade Desk’s Employee Stock Purchase Plan.

At the Trade Desk, Base Salary is one part of our competitive total compensation and benefits package and is determined using a salary range. The base salary range for this role is $113,500—$208,100 USD
