Job Description

Remote

Ready to be pushed beyond what you think you’re capable of?

At Coinbase, our mission is to increase economic freedom in the world. It’s a massive, ambitious opportunity that demands the best of us, every day, as we build the emerging onchain platform — and with it, the future global financial system.

To achieve our mission, we’re seeking a very specific candidate. We want someone who is passionate about our mission and who believes in the power of crypto and blockchain technology to update the financial system. We want someone who is eager to leave their mark on the world, who relishes the pressure and privilege of working with high caliber colleagues, and who actively seeks feedback to keep leveling up. We want someone who will run towards, not away from, solving the company’s hardest problems.

Our work culture is intense and isn’t for everyone. But if you want to build the future alongside others who excel in their disciplines and expect the same from you, there’s no better place to be.

Team/ Role:

Data-backed decision making is core to Coinbase’s culture, and our People Analytics team strives to introduce data to inform, and ultimately drive, every people-related decision we make. We are looking for a Senior BI Engineer to realize this vision, to help build a solid data infrastructure, expanding the team’s ability to drive business impact. We are looking for candidates who are builders: to define and build toward a best-in-class future, build our foundations (from the weeds to the clouds), and support in the scaling of our People Analytics practices for the next phase of Coinbase’s growth.

People Analytics works closely with our Executive Team, functional business leaders, and People leaders to ensure people data is accessible, valuable, and actionable. The team covers 4 pillars: advisory, product development (dashboards and tools), advanced analytics, and surveying. This role is pivotal to the enablement of those pillars.

What you’ll be doing (ie. job duties):

  • Develop, manage, and optimize scalable data pipelines and dashboards to track critical metrics and derive insights for our stakeholders.
  • Work both within the PA team and with cross-functional stakeholders to improve data collection, generate insights, and create scalable solutions that enable our users to make informed decisions.
  • Work across the aisle with both business stakeholders and data engineering teams, translating business requirements into technical specifications.

What we look for in you (ie. job requirements):

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, mathematics, or economics or equivalent preferred.
  • Advanced SQL skills, with at least 4 years of experience.
  • Experience adopting data best practices and optimal design principles.
  • Experience working with both relational and dimensional data models.
  • Ability to quickly troubleshoot data quality issues and discrepancies.
  • Ability to acclimate to and understand new and unfamiliar data sources.
  • Experience working with disparate data sources.
  • Familiarity with data security and permissioning best practices, including column masking and row-level security.
  • Experience with Looker, or a similar visualization tool.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Nice to haves:

  • 3+ years of experience in People Analytics or background in I/O Psychology, Organizational Design.
  • Proficiency working with Python.
  • Experience building scalable ETL workflows with Github and Airflow.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Comfort serving as a liaison between technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Track record of handling sensitive data with care and discretion.
