Job Purpose:
We are seeking a Team Lead to take ownership of the technical execution of product initiatives within a squad. This role combines hands-on coding, team leadership, and close collaboration with product management to deliver scalable backend systems. You'll help scale our core platform, drive the development of new products, and mentor engineers, all while working with a modern backend tech stack: Ruby on Rails, PostgreSQL, Redis/Sidekiq, RabbitMQ, ElasticSearch, Git/GitHub, Docker/K8s, and GCP.
What You’ll Do:
- Break down product epics into technically actionable tasks and guide the squad through successful delivery.
- Lead the sprint's technical execution alongside the PM, acting as the main communication bridge between engineering and product.
- Participate in daily code reviews to ensure best practices, maintainability, and code quality.
- Provide strong mentorship to team members and help onboard new engineers.
- Conduct team rituals such as standups, retrospectives, backlog refinement, and tech huddles.
- Develop and maintain deep knowledge of your squad’s business domain, while staying aware of other squad goals and dependencies.
- Drive continuous improvement in processes, tools, and systems.
- Maintain and promote up-to-date squad documentation and knowledge sharing across teams.
- Monitor and ensure resolution of any open security issues related to your squad's work.
- Write clean, scalable code and build APIs and systems that support high availability and performance.
- Collaborate with Engineering Leadership and product team to shape the technical roadmap and prioritize initiatives.
- Drive the development of new backend products that seamlessly integrate with our existing platform.
Who You Are:
- 7+ years of professional backend development experience, with deep expertise in Ruby on Rails and SQL databases.
- Strong experience building highly scalable, secure systems in a fast-paced environment.
- Proven leadership experience, including mentoring and managing engineering rituals.
- Familiar with Git/Git Flow and modern project management tools.
- Solid understanding of system design, architecture, and testing best practices.
- Experience working in product-led startups and cross-functional teams.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- High standard of writing clean, reusable, and maintainable code.
