Senior Content Designer, Design Systems

Jobber exists to help people in small businesses be successful. We work with small home service businesses, like your local plumbers, electricians, painters, and landscapers, to transform the way service is delivered through technology. With Jobber they can quote, schedule, invoice, and collect payments from their customers, while providing an easy and professional customer experience. Running a small business today isn’t like it used to be—the way we consume and deliver service is changing rapidly, technology is evolving, and customers expect more. That’s why we put the power and flexibility in their hands to run their businesses how, where, and when they want!

Our culture of transparency, inclusivity, collaboration, and innovation has been recognized by Great Place to Work, Canada’s Most Admired Corporate Cultures, and more. Jobber has also been named on the Globe and Mail’s Canada’s Top Growing Companies list, and Deloitte Canada’s Technology Fast 50™, Enterprise Fast 15, and Technology Fast 500™ lists. With an Executive team that has over thirty years of industry experience of leading the way, we’ve come a long way from our first customer in 2011—but we’ve just scratched the surface of what we want to accomplish for our customers.

The role:

Our Product Design team transforms concepts & ideas into software that accelerate home service businesses around the world. By integrating UI, UX, research, and content design, we influence and shape every aspect of the user journey across all our products. As our first Senior Content Designer, you will lead the way in establishing and growing our Content Design practice. Your work will redefine how we approach language and communication, simplifying complex software for home service businesses worldwide.

This is a highly collaborative role, and you will partner with other senior product design leaders to help us succeed in two critical areas:

  1. Identify high-value touchpoints across our experiences where thoughtful content would have the highest impact, and lead design and iteration to deliver clarity and quality. Your focus on improving product quality through thoughtful content solutions will directly elevate product quality and contribute to exceptional user experiences.
  2. Working systematically through our design system to craft the foundational language, concepts, and models that equip product builders across teams to build more intentional and refined experiences. Your influence and impact will be organization-wide, and a rising tide that elevates our awareness and capability across our teams.

The team:

You will be a part of our Atlantis Design System team and where you will collaborate with a like-minded group of designers, product leaders, and engineers who share your passion for creating scalable, impactful solutions.

As the founding member of our Content Design practice at Jobber, you’ll report to our Senior Manager, Product Design and join them in working with product triads across teams to elevate communication and improve user experiences across our product suite. Additionally, you’ll develop scalable content models, guidelines, and best practices that enable all our product builders to think critically about content quality across all our offerings.

This group is vital to the success of Jobber, the critical enablers that allow all our teams to create great software and experiences that deliver value to businesses and users worldwide.

As a Senior Content Designer, Design Systems, you will:

  • Work with cross-functional teams (Designers, Engineers, Product Managers) to elevate product communication and usability. Dig in and do whatever it takes to improve the words we use across our product!
  • Collaborate with the Atlantis Design System team to create scalable, consistent, and user-centered content across our product ecosystem.
  • Develop a consistent voice and tone across our product portfolio, ensuring consistency, simplicity, and clarity across all interactions.
  • Advocate for content-first design, ensuring clarity, accessibility, and consistency on every screen and touchpoint.
  • Establish content guidelines and standards that align with our design system principles and scale across various teams and products.
  • Lead content reviews, providing actionable feedback to designers and developers, ensuring high content standards are met.
  • Partner with product teams to conduct user research and testing to validate content decisions and refine content strategies.
  • Partner with senior design leaders to identify opportunities to enhance content impact across multiple products and platforms.
  • Through your success, grow into an internal  content practice leader, developing capacity and capability within our product teams to better interact with content and become better communicators.

To be successful, you should have:

  • Demonstrable experience leading the charge in transforming a product through content design.
  • Strong prior experience as a content designer or strategist in a product-driven environment, ideally working with/through design systems.
  • A design portfolio demonstrating strong content design skills, including microcopy, interface content, content strategy, information architecture, and how that contributed to better user experience and business outcomes.
  • Experience driving content quality at scale: crafting the foundational language, concepts, and models that equip product builders across teams to build more intentional and refined experiences.
  • Be experienced with design tools such as Figma, Miro, or similar for collaborative design and prototyping.
  • Understand the role of content in shaping the overall user experience and improving product usability.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a track record of working effectively in cross-functional teams.
  • Have a passion for clarity, empathy, and user-centered design, with an ability to adapt content to meet diverse user needs.
