The AGL Packaging Program Manager is responsible for driving innovation and continuous improvement in delivery packaging for grocery products sold in the UK and European markets. This is a strategic, high-impact role that requires close collaboration with cross-functional teams to develop sustainable and cost-effective packaging solutions and processes that meet customer and regulatory requirements.
As a packaging subject matter expert, the Program Manager keeps a pulse on evolving consumer preferences, retail trends, and regulatory changes impacting grocery packaging across the UK and Europe. They leverage this market intelligence to identify opportunities to enhance the environmental sustainability, functionality, and cost-effectiveness of packaging.
Working closely with the procurement, operations, and marketing teams, the Program Manager leads the development, testing, and implementation of new packaging materials, formats, and technologies. This includes conducting in-depth analyses to build compelling business cases, managing pilot projects, and driving the scale-up of successful packaging innovations.
Importantly, the Program Manager ensures all packaging solutions comply with applicable regulations, certifications, and customer requirements in the target markets. They collaborate cross-functionally to optimize artwork, labeling, and other packaging specifications to meet these standards.
Throughout the packaging lifecycle, the Program Manager monitors key performance metrics and continuously looks for ways to further improve sustainability, cost, and customer satisfaction. They serve as a trusted advisor to operations and retail teams, providing packaging expertise and guidance to support successful new launches and portfolio optimization.
Key job responsibilities
• Manage the end-to-end packaging lifecycle for grocery delivery materials, from design and sourcing to implementation and performance tracking
• Collaborate with procurement and suppliers to identify new packaging materials, formats, and technologies that improve sustainability, cost, and functionality
• Analyze market trends, customer feedback, and regulatory changes to proactively identify packaging improvement opportunities
• Lead cross-functional project teams to develop, test, and launch new packaging solutions
• Ensure packaging specifications, artwork, and labeling meet all applicable regulations in target markets
• Monitor packaging performance metrics such as cost, waste reduction, and customer satisfaction
• Prepare business cases and budgets to support packaging investment decisions
• Provide packaging expertise and guidance to operations and retail teams
• Stay up-to-date on industry best practices and sustainability initiatives related to grocery packaging- Bachelor's degree
- Knowledge of Excel (Pivot Tables, VLookUps) at an advanced level and SQL
- Experience working cross functionally with tech and non-tech teams
- Experience defining program requirements and using data and metrics to determine improvements
- Experience in program or project management
- Experience implementing repeatable processes and driving automation or standardization
- Experience defining and executing program requirements- Experience in driving end to end delivery, and communicating results to senior leadership
- Experience leading process improvements
- Experience in stakeholder management, dealing with multiple stakeholders at varied levels of the organization
- Experience building processes, project management, and schedules
