Job Description

Hybrid

Who we are

Samsara (NYSE: IOT) is the pioneer of the Connected Operations™ Cloud, which is a platform that enables organizations that depend on physical operations to harness Internet of Things (IoT) data to develop actionable insights and improve their operations. At Samsara, we are helping improve the safety, efficiency and sustainability of the physical operations that power our global economy. Representing more than 40% of global GDP, these industries are the infrastructure of our planet, including agriculture, construction, field services, transportation, and manufacturing — and we are excited to help digitally transform their operations at scale.

Working at Samsara means you’ll help define the future of physical operations and be on a team that’s shaping an exciting array of product solutions, including Video-Based Safety, Vehicle Telematics, Apps and Driver Workflows, Equipment Monitoring, and Site Visibility. As part of a recently public company, you’ll have the autonomy and support to make an impact as we build for the long term.

About the Role:

Samsara is hiring a Senior Director of Software Engineering to lead the development of our Workforce product lines. These products are in their early stages, requiring a leader who thrives in 0-to-1 environments—building solutions from scratch and iterating quickly to deliver customer impact. Some of these products include hardware and AI components, making this a multidisciplinary role that requires technical depth and strong execution.

We need someone with a strong sense of ownership who will obsess over details and focus on outcomes. You’ll lead a high-performing team, ship incrementally, and balance short-term speed with long-term scalability. This role is about solving hard problems, simplifying complexity, and delivering high-quality results that meet real customer needs.

Responsibilities:

  • Own the technical vision, strategy, and execution for the Workforce product line.
  • Lead the team in building and launching new 0-to-1 products, iterating quickly and delivering measurable impact.
  • Lead, mentor, and grow a team of high-performing engineers and managers across multiple locations, fostering a culture of ownership, speed, and accountability.
  • Work cross-functionally to develop solutions that integrate hardware and AI components into seamless customer experiences.
  • Make thoughtful product and engineering tradeoffs to balance speed, scope, and quality.
  • Communicate priorities, progress, and technical decisions clearly across teams and stakeholders.
  • Ensure long-term scalability and reliability as products mature, without sacrificing speed in the early stages.
  • Take full ownership of team outcomes, driving execution and delivering results aligned with business goals.
  • Champion new technologies, tools, and processes to enhance the capabilities of the different teams

Minimum Requirements:

  • 10+ years of software engineering experience, with 5+ years in leadership roles.
  • Proven success building 0-to-1 products, from concept to launch, and scaling them over time.
  • Experience managing managers and teams of 30+ engineers
  • Technical background, including a degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong technical decision-making skills, with a focus on simplicity and customer impact.
  • React Native: Deep expertise in using React Native for mobile app development, including complex implementations and integration with native modules.
  • GraphQL: Proficient in using GraphQL for efficient data fetching and API design, with a working knowledge of integrating GraphQL in mobile and web environments.
  • Frontend & Backend Frameworks: Experience with modern web frameworks and backend technologies
  • Software Architecture: Strong knowledge of mobile and web architecture patterns with a focus on scalability and maintainability.
  • DevOps & CI/CD: Familiarity with continuous integration and continuous deployment pipelines, automated testing frameworks, and monitoring tools to ensure high-quality releases.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to align teams and stakeholders at all levels.

An Ideal Candidate Also Has:

  • Experience in B2B SaaS or workforce-related products.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset, with experience navigating ambiguity and delivering in fast-paced environments.
  • Experience delivering products that combine hardware and AI
