About The Team
The Safety Office is a key part of our Public Trust organization, functioning independently from our technology development and business operations. This role will drive essential safety-related projects across our Safety Office and play a critical role in collaborating with our executive Safety Committee. You will articulate our safety vision and strategy and implement it through direct coordination with managers and safety-responsible engineers across nearly every function in the company.
About the Role
We are looking for a Technical Program Manager (TPM) with a strong background in automotive or autonomous vehicle (AV) safety to help Nuro deliver strategic, cross-functional safety-critical systems engineering projects.
About the Work
Act as a central point for communicating and coordinating safety-related projects across software, hardware, systems engineering, product, operations, and business teams, focusing heavily on AV safety standards and practices.
Lead technical safety reviews, including safety analyses, assessments, and compliance evaluations related to ISO 26262, ISO 21448, UL 4600, and other relevant AV safety standards.
Develop and manage detailed safety requirements, defining clear timelines and milestones, proactively identifying and mitigating risks, allocating appropriate resources, and resolving dependencies to ensure safety-critical milestones are met.
Synthesize technical safety data and analysis results, clearly communicating status, risks, and mitigation plans regularly to company leadership and key stakeholders.
Foster an internal safety culture by ensuring comprehensive integration of safety considerations into product development and operational processes.
About You
You have substantial experience in technical program or project management specifically related to automotive safety or autonomous vehicle systems.
You have direct experience applying automotive/AV safety standards such as ISO 26262 (functional safety), ISO 21448 (SOTIF), or UL 4600 (AV safety assurance).
You demonstrate a strong understanding of system safety methodologies (e.g., FMEA, FTA, HARA, HAZOP).
You collaborate effectively across teams and functions, excelling in complex, cross-functional environments.
You possess the ability to clearly prioritize, manage multiple concurrent safety-critical initiatives, and maintain rigorous attention to detail.
You have start-up DNA, comfortably managing ambiguity and rapidly evolving project scopes in dynamic environments.
You hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent experience with demonstrated safety-critical system expertise.
You have genuine enthusiasm for autonomous systems, robotics, AI, and safety engineering excellence.
Bonus Points
Prior direct involvement in autonomous vehicle or advanced robotics programs.
Experience conducting safety audits, assessments, or certifications related to autonomous or automotive safety-critical systems.
Familiarity with safety case development and management.
