About us:
PurposeMed was founded in 2019 with the mission of improving access to complex care for underserved communities. We’ve grown quickly in our first few years, and now our exceptional team serves thousands of patients each month across our multiple verticals.
PurposeMed consists of three complex care business units: Freddie, Frida, and Foria, and partners with Affirming Care Pharmacy. Freddie is focused on improving sexual health through education, prevention, and treatment with a focus on the LGBTQ2S+ community—we’re now the largest HIV prevention service in Canada and have recently expanded to the USA to further increase access to care! Frida is changing the lives of patients with easier access to adult ADHD diagnosis, and fast and affordable treatment. Foria Clinic provides trans, non-binary, and gender-diverse Canadians with gender-affirming healthcare. Affirming Care Pharmacy is a specialty pharmacy with locations in Calgary, Alberta, and Mississauga, Ontario. This partnership provides our patients with an end-to-end healthcare experience, from treatment, to prescription delivery, to continuous affirming care.
We’re one of LinkedIn’s Top 15 Startups in Canada, the #2 Company-to-Watch in Deloitte’s prestigious Technology Fast 50® program, and a member of the Team True North® roster as one of Canada’s fastest-growing and most promising startups. You will be building and leading an engineering, product, and design team that enables an unparalleled patient experience, at a sustainable cost, through technology. Reporting to the CEO, this role will work directly with our founders and leaders from all functions across the business to ensure we’re building solutions that solve our patients’ complex healthcare needs in a scalable way. Ultimately, you’ll help our team provide life-changing, affirming care to tens of thousands of patients.
In this role, you’ll make an impact by:

- Being the engineering leader who drives conversations about how technology can be leveraged in patient-first ways, bring new product verticals to market, and scale our technology team
- Delivering exceptional patient experiences
- Identifying opportunities for technology to improve the convenience, accessibility and quality of our care (reducing the time for patients to receive treatment, increasing our providers’ capacity for managing more treatments, creating a stickier experience that increases patient loyalty, etc.)

- Overseeing data management and analytics strategies, leveraging insights to drive business decisions and improve patient care outcomes
- Developing a high-performing engineering, product, and design team
- Clearly articulating the vision to inspire the team with a shared purpose
- Hiring, mentoring, and leading top talent in engineering, product, design, IT, data, and security, through a mix of in-house and contractor talent where applicable
- Encouraging a culture of collaboration and innovation by providing resources and a safe environment for rapid experimentation and creative problem-solving
- Implementing management practices that maintain a high bar for quality and velocity in the engineering, product, and design organization

- An ability to prioritize effectively across many initiatives, business units, and departments—we need someone who is unbothered by context switching, who can confidently shift focus onto the highest priorities as the needs of the business evolve
- Strong business acumen and a commercial mindset—a deep understanding of the relationship between commercial/business operations, unit economics, and the resulting financials (P&L)
- An innate understanding that business success is a shared endeavour—having a natural bias toward action and collaboration, the ideal candidate will constantly be pushing toward clarity, alignment and ultimately, delivery of results
- A passion for PurposeMed's mission and solving healthcare challenges for underserved communities
It would also be great if you have:
- Experience building technology for a company operating in a highly regulated industry
- Demonstrated experience overseeing and integrating data management, IT infrastructure, and security/compliance functions
