Job Description

Minimum qualifications:

  • 6 years of experience in eDiscovery, Information Governance or a related field (e.g., records management, data governance, etc.).
  • 3 years of experience working with executive stakeholders.
  • 2 years of experience developing business strategies or managing cross-functional initiatives.
  • Experience with Privacy and Compliance policy development.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in Records Management/Information Governance, within a legal department at an operating company, a legal technology company, or a law firm.
  • Experience influencing stakeholders with engaging objectives to align on outcomes, translating business and legal needs to initiatives.
  • Ability to drive the development and onboarding of new policies or decision-making frameworks, manage existing policies and related processes, and communicate key information to employees and stakeholders through training or FAQs.
  • Ability to oversee the structuring and analysis of recommendations for problems, leveraging sound business judgment and management, problem-solving and communication skills.

In this role, you will partner with many functions and Product Areas across Google and seek to harmonize our compliance requirements, litigation profile, business needs, and company culture.


As the Information Governance Data Retention Policy Lead, you will be an integral part in driving the development and ongoing management of Google’s corporate data retention policies and processes, working with Global Affairs team members and cross-functional compliance partners. This role will involve responsibility for enterprise-wide data retention policies and related documentation, as well as the development of effective communications and training materials to ensure employee awareness and understanding. Finally, the Data Retention Policy Lead will have a role in identifying critical tooling and technology needs, collaborating with product managers and engineers to drive technology solutions, and monitoring the ongoing success of the tools/features/process improvements post-launch.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $134,000-$198,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.   • Leverage a substantive understanding of records management and information governance processes and practices, including legal, policy, and regulatory concerns.
  • Work with Product and Corporate Counsel, compliance professionals, and other cross-functional partners to develop and manage corporate data retention policies and records retention schedules, as well as managing the communication and training of critical information to employees.
  • Apply knowledge of the use of technology to address legal requirements and processes, and work with cross-functional stakeholders to develop effective enforcement capabilities for relevant policies in key products and services.
  • Draft and maintain policy documentation related to the program, including self-help guidance for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure leadership alignment and exert stakeholder influence to garner consensus from internal and external stakeholders, including senior leadership, surrounding new ideas and strategies.
