**About the Team** The CISO organization at Uber is responsible for all aspects of cybersecurity, privacy engineering and physical security systems. This is a critical global team focused on proactive security implementations and risk reduction, leveraging best in class engineering, secure by default and data science principles. We support all Uber lines of businesses from Delivery, Mobility, Transit, Payments and new acquisitions. Our mission is to make Uber the industry model for consumer privacy through differentiated products and services, standards in engineering, policy, and transparent communications. We are focusing on building both a privacy technology platform and user-facing products that give our users choice around their data, build trust, advance data privacy, and enable our business. **About the Role** Based in Amsterdam, we are seeking a senior level engineering leader with technical depth, product intuition, and entrepreneurial spirit to join and lead our EMEA Security Engineering team. This role will lead the planning, development, and delivery of security engineering solutions. This role will have a close collaboration with product management, design, data science, security, legal, policy, communications, as well as many product and engineering teams across Uber. The Director, Security Engineering will be the technical voice in all security engineering projects across the EMEA region. You should be comfortable in uncharted territory as we build unique technologies and grow user trust. We need your skills and enthusiasm to make it happen. **What You’ll Do** - Oversee a team of engineers in our Amsterdam location who support security and privacy initiatives in the areas of platform security, product security, security machine learning and infrastructure security. - Establish and communicate team vision and goals - Work with stakeholders to craft product/technology strategy and roadmap for security and privacy, mapping critical business priorities to dependencies, and aligning cross-functional roadmaps - Lead team to plan and deliver against roadmap, both in quality and quantity, in a sustainable way - Establish and manage processes for efficient team execution - Drive engineering excellence by evangelizing and adopting best practices with well defined goals and metrics - Foster cross-functional, cross-team collaboration by building trust relationships with product management, design, data science, security, legal, policy, communications, as well as many product and engineering teams across Uber - Anticipate bottlenecks, provide escalation management and ensure user privacy is not compromised - Thrive in high-stakes, complex situations. - Form partnership with leading researchers and industry partners to develop cutting edge security technologies - Recruit technical talent. Mentor, coach, and develop top notch engineers in a high performing engineering team; should be comfortable doing design and code reviews. - Build a diverse, inclusive, fair, collaborative, and dynamic team environment - Be an internal and external evangelist for Uber’s security technology **What You’ll Need** - 15+ years of progressively senior experience in engineering in a large technology enterprise or other large enterprises in a technology heavy industry - 10+ years of experience in a leadership role, building, mentoring, and managing teams and managing managers. - Bachelor’s and/or Master’s Degree in Computer Science or a relevant technical field **Bonus Points if** - Previous experience with security engineering or software engineering with a focus on data or AI - Experience building highly scalable, robust, and fault-tolerant products and platforms in a big data environment to support our unique rate-of-growth - Experience working cross-functionally with all levels of management, both internally and externally - Experience communicating and influencing decisions at senior levels - Visionary ideals for user privacy and can apply them in a business environment. - Strategic mindset, comfortable thinking far ahead of where the team is at now. - Creative problem solver, having an excellent understanding of business goals and able to identify and solve high impact, highly complex problems. - Ability to hire, motivate, develop, and retain top talent, and build a dynamic and high-performing team. - Experience managing agile development teams. - Track record in prioritizing and driving multiple work-streams forward simultaneously - Ability to empower a team while providing them with career paths that align with business goals - Proven track record of collaborating with and influencing stakeholders - Principled yet pragmatic, having conviction and being authentic in your approach, but situationally aware enough to adapt when needed. - Sound business judgment, ability to influence others, and strong analytical thinking skills - Outstanding storyteller with the ability to articulate a clear vision that balances principled decision-making, user empathy, and data analysis We welcome people from all backgrounds who seek the opportunity to help build a future where everyone and everything can move independently.
