As a Senior Workplace, Health and Safety (WHS) Specialist, your role is key to driving improvements on-site and at a regional level. You’ll help your colleagues maintain high standards, all while driving a culture of safety and inclusivity on your site.
Key job responsibilities
• Work with WHS to support RME linked to raising the bar on safety.
• Help to develop paperwork systems linked to operational processes (risk assessments, SOP's)
• Travel between the sites in your region to perform inspections and support on programmes where required.
• Develop SME knowledge linked to automation and machinery used within AMZL.
• Support WHS and RME linked to building upgrades and changes linked to works involving contractors and other programmes of work.
• Support accident / near miss investigations.
• Manage your programmes, whilst regularly collaborating with other teams and stakeholders across the company
• Use internal reporting tools to analyse data reports and root causes that provide leadership with the information they need to make safety related decisions
• Provide guidance and arrangements for health and safety projects and policies
• Drive programmes to improve technical equipment specifications and designs within Amazon
• Above-average willingness to travel within the covered region
A day in the life
This is an extremely varied role, you will be based at one of the sites in the region but will be required to travel weekly around the other sites where required.
You will manage health and safety standards while improving functionality and efficiency. You’ll will work with WHS, supporting RME and sites to help them implement changes in response to employee feedback or seize opportunities to continuously make process improvements.
Your role is instrumental in keeping employees safe, managing their satisfaction, and supervising their well being and productivity. You’ll step in and take ownership of health and safety to foster a culture that revolves around operating safely.
About the team
Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) plays a crucial role in keeping our people mentally and physically well at work. Our team works with managers, associates and local governments across our sites, making sure we’re complying with Amazon’s policies and legal regulations, and that our workplaces are safe.
There is a range of opportunities within the team, from Health and Safety Technicians to Programme Managers. No matter what your role is, you’ll play a part in developing, implementing and upholding our high safety and wellbeing standards. You could work on a variety of projects alongside colleagues from across the business, ranging from equipment and process inspections to assessing processes, building and equipment design.
Amazon Logistics, or AMZL, handles ‘last mile’ delivery duties in partnership with third-party distribution businesses. We utilise creative thinking and continuous improvement initiatives to get millions of physical products into the hands of our customers. Our goal is to make our customers’ delivery experience as smooth as possible and roll out global delivery solutions for our newest concepts, like Amazon Fresh, Prime Now and Amazon Restaurants.
There are two sides to what we do. Our ‘under the roof’ associates process millions of products for dispatch to our delivery teams. Our team is people-focused and supportive, particularly as lots of our people work through the night. We focus mostly on operations, with 24/7 shifts in most of our locations.
Meanwhile, our ‘on the road’ people work with Amazon Flex - a network of delivery contractors. Every year, we continually raise the bar for customer experience with new, innovative delivery services. We look for new ways to overcome industry wide logistics challenges and new ideas to reduce our carbon footprint, supported by a portfolio of cutting-edge vehicles (including Electric Vehicles) and technology to help us do just that.
• Education to a degree level and additional qualifications to an NVQ5/NEBOSH Diploma level
• Professional training in a technical profession, preferably mechatronics or electrics
• Relevant experience managing projects
• Relevant experience complying with local Health and Safety legislation
• Advanced proficiency in verbal and written English

• Experience with Lean, 5S and Kaizen methodologies
• Qualifications or experience in the field of sustainability
• Relevant experience of communicating with a wide range of stakeholders, including your peers and leadership
• Chartered membership of a Human Resources industry body (e.g., IOSH) to support people management
• Strong stakeholder management capabilities
• Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and controls systems
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field
